It seems that Dave needs the help of a family therapist. I remember an encounter with one of these things last year - I blogged about it if I recall correctly. I saw a job for one advertised and they get about £30,000pa. From my conversation with an family therapist, it seems that they help families, despite there being nothing wrong with them. Perhaps they just go into the home and help plump up cushions or make beds and things.
