THE WEEKEND MAGAZINE: Better than a Realdoll?

Sebastian & Mary Balfour

Sebastian I first got interested in the art of taxidermy when my father mounted my pet dog Prospero, a 15-year-old Westie. Many people say that the new freeze dry method produces a superior, and much more life like result, but I believe that the traditional way gives the subject a soul. During the time we were married she would often catch me just looking at her intently, oblivious to the outside world. She would say that she knew what I was thinking. I would always deny it. After she passed, it turned out she was right.

The old one looks like a woman. Are we sure it's a man?

Spooky. Reminds me of an old Tales of the Unexpected story.

Even in your current aloof phase I'd wager you were somewhat proud of your peacock observation for this scrumtious morsel. Go on, fan and preen yourself, old boy. Give yourself a little Radio 4 with a delicious cream bun and a rather lovely Merlot as reward.

;)

I've mounted many a dog and I'm not the least bit interested in taxidermy.
